They had to be adept at wielding a soldering iron since all the wiring was PVC which melts and shinks with any application of heat. As a kit the work is a bit easier than a Heathkit these boards were pressembled and tested – “”All”” the kit-builder had to do was solder the wires and chassis components, and do a bunch of mechanical assembly. Scott 260 – they appear to be the same, right down to the boards used.

The LK-60 is essentially the kit form of the H.H. But since I’ve yet to spend money on stuff for it, it’s still free…right? I’ve cleaned the front panel and knobs, and refinished the case. The photos, as blurry as they are, cheat a little. All this was given away by the original builder.
#H.h. scott stereo master heathkit manuals
Both were in wood cases, nice looking front panels and knobs, and the complete assembly manuals with all the paperwork (included receipts and warranty cards). Not one, but two of these beauties, one with a tone circuit issue, the other an incomplete parts unit. I got these for free, off my local Freecycle. Scott LK-60 was an early solid-state integrated amplifer kit based on the H.H. Before that work disappears to the digital sands of time, I am going to move over a couple of the better threads here. From time to time, I still get questions about that work. I wrote up a couple of my restorations through the AudioKarma forums. I spend my money now on finding good deals on vintage vinyl. I’ve cut down to a single Harmon Kardon amp, a U-Turn turntable and a good set of Sennheiser headphones. It was fun while it lasted, but interests change. They take little space, and can be installed almost anywhere.I was on a real vintage audiophile kick in the late oughties I think I owned an example of every style of speaker for a while, and many different amplifiers, preamp, turntables, and a whole bunch of other things. You also get extra versatility with components. All of your purchase price goes for the guts or insides of the set. When you buy components you don't spend a lot of money on expensive cabinetry. It is here that the carefully controlled electrical signal is changed into sound waves you can hear.Ĭomponents give you the ultimate in performance. It is in the amplifier that you control the sound, make it louder or softer or change the tonal balance to suit your ears. The amplifier strengthens the minute signals fed into it by the tuner or record player turns these signals into electrical impulses strong enough to drive the speakers. The Amplifier is the link between the tuner or turntable and the speakers. Graph needle and transforms the movement of the needle in the record groove to electrical signals. Mounted on the turntable or changer is the arm and cartridge. It is a precision piece of equipment, made like a fine watch. The Record Player is usually in the form of a turntable or a record changer in the high fidelity system. FM is a newer form of static-free radio being used to transmit a great deal of good music. AM is the kind you find in most ordinary table radios. There are two kinds of radio waves: AM and FM. The Radio Tuner captures the radio waves from the air. The smaller companies who manufacture fine components can maintain higher standards of quality and performance than is possible in the mass-produced console. With components you can separate the loudspeaker from the record playing equipment so that speaker sound vibration will not interfere with the perfect reproduction of the recording. When you buy components you pick the particular parts you want to fill your needs and plug them together to form a complete system. With components the value is concentrated in the electronic equipment, rather than in the furniture. In conventional radio phonographs all these parts are manufactured together and installed in one cabinet. These separate units include: The record changer, amplifier, loudspeaker, and radio tuner. With component high fidelity all the essential parts of the music system are purchased as separate units. Actually it is a combination of silence and truth because high fidelity sound reproduction means the absence of extraneous noise and hum and faithful, distortionless, delivery of the sound you want to hear. It is the creation in your own living room of the true beauty and depth of the original performance as played in the concert hall. Detailing the Range of HH Scott High Fidelity Components.
